Episode 2: Hydration

We attempted to flush out our hangovers this week by drinking 2L of liquid including blue Gatorade, orange juice, coffee and water.

THE RESULTS:

Like last week, Bronte and Keiks ate the same type and amount of food, water and alcohol so we could compare to last week's greasy food episode. And also like last week, our hangovers did go down compared to immediately after waking up. Hydration made Bronte feel great, allowed her to get on with her life and she even went on to win her soccer grand final the following day! Keiks was a bit too far gone for hydration to help her and binged watched Orange is the New Black and Fargo for the rest of the day. Weirdly, the drinks they were used to: Bronte with Gatorade and Keiks with orange juice made them feel better compared to the drinks they were less familiar with.

The Alcohol Hangover Severity Scale doesn't seem to fit us quite right with aspects like shivering, sweating and heart pounding not being relevant to us so stay tuned for an updated Bronte and Keiks Scale.

Another aspect of this week's podcast that we wanted to mention was that fact that not all scientists self-experiment. Bronte mentioned Nobel Laureate Barry Marshall and Robin Warren's discovery of the cause of ulcers by experimenting on themselves. Whilst we, future-Nobel Laureates Keiks and Bronte, are also self-experimenting it's actually not very common! If you want to find out more about Barry Marshall, here's an interview he did https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2661189/
